solens gång
This is also an alternative. If you Google all the suggested translations, this is actually the most common by a factor of 13-14.

And so on. I came to think of it because solargangur sounds like it could be solens gång.
Anyway, if you think about it, we say "solen går upp" and "solen går ned", why wouldn't we use the term for everything in between as well...?

Discussion
While both "sun" and "path" are nouns themselves, the term will be useful in an adjectival sense for an engineering component - sort of like a "sunpath gear", so perhaps Swedish might render such as a compound noun + noun genitive (possessive) that might be employed . . . It is for possible use in a swedish patent application ... if the right term that is both scientifically accurate yet has some common use/ layperson /literary sense could be utilized.
Tack.
In addition to variations of using either "bana" and "gång",
I also found some use of "väg" . . . including "solens dagliga väg över himlen"
but also some variations using "rörelse" or "förflyttning".
Any further comments or input is greatly appreciated.
(If the English word was "the ecliptic", it would of course be translated to "ekliptikan".)
