prompts and probes

English to Spanish Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. Social Sciences
Hello,

I am translating a Market Research interview guide with instructions to the interviewer, and in the text there appears sentences like:

"What key challenges do you face when treating and managing migraine patients?
a)Probe: Patient related and treatment related
b)Prompt: What are challenges specific to preventative treatment options "

and also:

"Probe: how relevant is this message to you/ to migraine prevention
c)Prompt about the product specifically
(a)What is conveying that to you?
2)To what extent does this address some of the negative feelings and unmet needs in prevention of migraine that you talked about earlier?
a)Probe: why or why not?
(a)Probe about what more it needs to have/show to meet the unmet need"

What is the equivalent in Spanish of "Probe and Prompt", taking into account that it also appears "prompt about" and "probe about".

Preguntas y Sugerencias (Probes and Prompts)

Hola Fernanda,
Añado aquí mis propias reflexiones a la interesante aportación previa de Alex.

Prompt is to lead someone toward what they should say or do [pedir/incitar/provocar/incidir/sugerir] . Also, cue, reminder [aviso, ejemplo, apunte].

While probe is to explore, to investigate, to question [indagar, investigar, preguntar].

Dependiendo del contexto específico -de la frase y del sentido en ella- podrás utilizar una u otra acepción.

Por ejemplo, cuando aparece aislado en tus ejemplos;

- What key challenges do you face when treating and managing migraine patients?
a)Probe Explorar/Investigar [preguntar sobre]: Patient related and treatment related
b)Prompt Ejemplo [sugerencia]: What are challenges specific to preventative treatment options

- To what extent does this address some of the negative feelings and unmet needs in prevention of migraine that you talked about earlier?
a)Probe Explorar/Investigar [preguntar sobre]: why or why not?

- Probe Explorar/Investigar [preguntar sobre]: how relevant is this message to you/ to migraine prevention

Y cuando aparecen aislados:

- (a)Probe about Investiga/explora what more it needs to have/show to meet the unmet need

- c)Prompt about incide/pregunta sobre / sugiere que te hable sobre the product specifically
(a)What is conveying that to you?

What is the equivalent in Spanish of Probe and Prompt? Pregunta y Sugerencia.
Sin un contexto específico, la diferencia principal entre ambas es que prompt sugiere o incita una respuesta mientras que probe explora, investiga o cuestiona sobre algo. En función también de dicho contexto, podrían resultar, en ocasiones, equivalentes.

apunta y sondea

Fernanda,

The following references provide the answers you are looking for regarding the meaning of those words, from which you might find it easier to translate if you're not happy with my suggested translations:

I think that the text is actually using the verb form (as an indication to the researcher) and not the noun form, so I changed the term phrasing slightly accordingly (I used the tu form but obviously change it if necessary).

Prompt: under the Verb form, definition 2: encourage someone to say something (in a certain direction)
Español: apuntar http://dle.rae.es/srv/fetch?id=3LFQRl7 - def. 16

Probe: under the Verb form, definition 1.1: to enquire into something closely
Español: sond(e)ar http://dle.rae.es/srv/fetch?id=YM9b0d8 - def. 2
