I think you are missing a d at the end of pronounce. The portal vein drains a large percentage of the venous blood from the intraperitoneal organs and it courses through the liver, anything that diminishes it's flow (like chirrosis) will give rise to what is called portal hypertension and venous blood will re route towards a lower pressure system through the esophageal plexus making it and it's tributary veins more dilated thus conditioning the appearance of caput medusae which is a term that refers to dilated veins in the skin of the epigastric region which look like the snakes of the head of Medusa.
