NEIGH: Venezuela. Universidad Central, Caracas - 1905 "... la menor vibración. whinny versus neigh relincho/resoplido Explanation: I believe the difference is "whinny" is the noise they can make while inhaling and "neigh" is the sound they can produce while exhaling. They are distinct sounds but could be easily conflated by someone who has not spent a lot of time around horses. In Spanish the terms are relincho and resoplido, although there is a third sound they produce called a resuello, which serves as an alarm. http://avequus.blogspot.com/2009/06/sonidos-del-caballo-su-s... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 28 mins (2013-12-04 17:17:16 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Here is an explanation in English of the sounds horses make. http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com/articles/at_languageofhorse... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 34 mins (2013-12-04 17:23:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- And here is a "relincho", same as the "whinny" in the example I posted in my comment to Charles. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 34 mins (2013-12-04 17:23:18 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JF06nYiRQ10 -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 36 mins (2013-12-04 17:25:16 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- You can hear a "resoplidos" here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v1FTHXOr8E |
