The dry cow barn is an area where the cows spend the last 2 months of that pregnancy. They are not giving milk. During this time they rest up, conserve body weight, and get ready for their next calf to be born. Heifers, which have been brought back from the heifer raising operations, are preparing for their first calves. Our heifers are new to using a freestall barn, so in this area, they get familiar with the ***feed aisle stanchions***, and using the sand beds. Most importantly, the cows here are taking it easy.
