22:15 Jun 28, 2016
English to Spanish translations [PRO] Agriculture / Extrusion process
English term or phrase:Die Land Length
The text is about the production, by means of an extruder, of quality pellets for fish feed and pet food. The specific term in question is "die land length". So far "die" has been translated as "troquel".
John @ 8:45pm, thanks for expressing what I couldn't be bothered to.
"cámara de relajación" sounds like it would fit in with the ability to change the density of the pellets, but I appreciate what you're saying Taña - you don't like to suggest unless you're near certain or armed with good refs. Either way, you've provided a lot of good info and food for thought - but it's a tricky one!
Thank you. However, as said before, even with the additional context provided by Jorgelina (third entry from bottom), I am not convinced that "longitud de la cámara de salida" makes sense, nor do I think that "troquel" has any place in this context. I merely found a reference to "die land" here: http://tecnologiadelosplasticos.blogspot.com/2011/03/extrusi... which in itself is confusing as it gives two terms: " La primera de estas secciones es conocida como: cámara de relajación; mientras que la segunda puede ser llamada cámara de salida (die land). Further 1) this deals with plastics, if I am not mistaken 2) the term "troquel" is not mentioned anywhere. I hope you will see why I am hesitant to put in anything as a proposal, as it would certainly not benefit the Asker.
Saludos. :-)
seems the best answer. (I agree with Neil). I have no clue about the subject myself, but even then, if you kindly offer that as an answer, I will vote for it hands down. That is, even not knowing about the subject, the option clarifies what it is, thus bringing about understanding. And "understanding" at the end of the day is what really counts in this game of translating and communicating. Looking forward for your posting! :-)
Thanks for all these helpul options. I managed to get more context to decide which option would be the best in this case.
During the process of developing either pet or fish food, one of the final interactions of your product occurs at the cutterhead. Dies are used to create the various shapes and sizes of products. The design of the die has a great impact on the end product outcome. One major factor of design that can affect the quality of your end product is the land length of the die. This single dimension can control whether you produce a floating or sinking fish feed or a very airy or dense pet food pellet. The land length of the die is the dimension of the straight section within a die. For denser pellets, this dimension is longer and for lighter pellets, this dimension is shorter.
Thanks Neil. I understand and you are too kind! LOL! I believe I have exhausted my options and again without further context, I will leave it alone now for others (who are more knowledgeable than I) to venture an answer. I would only be guessing if I were to propose "cámara de salida" or "descarga" as the case may be and I know nothing about making pellets and fish food! I believe it would be a totally reckless approach on my part! Regards, and again thank you.
Thank you. However, I believe this field is more your area than mine. As so little context was posted to begin with, I tried to work firstly with what I had, and those references I posted are what I found, but my issue was that the "die-Land" which incidentally sounds weird to me (German perhaps?), I needed to find out what it was and what part it played in the extrusion process (especially pellets and fish food). Neil, I was not convinced with the first reference "hilera, tierra", so I found the other, but again it is in the context of plastics, and my concern here is whether the term would apply with so VERY LITTLE context originally provided! Neil, I would welcome any further comments. Regards.
Otra: http://tecnologiadelosplasticos.blogspot.com/2011/03/extrusi... So .... "cámara de salida/descarga" (die land). Yo dejaría la palabra "die land" entre [..]. Saludos.
http://www.kostic.niu.edu/extrusion_die_design-echp-1.pdf Die land: forms the outer diameter of the tubular extrudate, held in place with a retaining ring and position adjusted with centering bolts. The die land can be changed to create a tube of a different diameter or wall thickness while keeping the original die pin.
It appears only in the headers. For example: Die Land Length to produce Pet or Fish food
Then it goes on: As you read in part 1 of this blog, we discussed the current desire to eat healthier which has resulted in an increased demand for textured soy protein (TSP) as a protein replacement due to its affordability and ability to blend well.
