Bert was known as a muscle man. He was a heavy-set, round-faced, deceptively soft-looking young man who specialized in strong-arm routines and “shakes”.

I'm thinking of using "rutinne zastrasovanie a "presviedcanie"" I would be glad if somebody would suggest anything more appropriate. Thank you.

Within the given context of Burroughs' Junky I think it has surely something to do with exaction (vymáhanie, vytriasanie peňazí,..). Coctails would give no meaning there.
