At no time in Christendom the one can wish sweet dreams to a dead person! The common sense would suggest greeting the deceased with rest in peace, and/or may he/she rest in peace. I am well-versed with orthodox customs and wishing Sweet Dreams to a dead corpse would sound rather as a mockery or t least a phrase of ambiguous import in Serbian language. I truly believe that translators have to bear in mind the differences in various cultures, religions, and customs. Therefore, even translation; herein the target language should match the customs, tact and senses of the audience otherwise translation would carry only a vague of the source language. |
