Explanation: Disability Competency is the ability to provide person-centered and appropriate treatment, services, supports and related accommodations to individuals with disabilities while ensuring that the individual’s goals, values, interests and preferences inform the design and delivery of care... Disability-competent care recognizes each individual as a wholeperson, not a diagnosis or condition, and focuses on providing treatment, services and supports that maximize health, function and independence. https://healthcareinnovation.vermont.gov/sites/hcinnovation/...

Например, есть "New Parent Guide - A resource for new or expectant parents of a baby with Down syndrome, as well as friends, families and medical professionals. Disability competence is concerned with the competence of service providers (business employees). More specifically, disability competence is concerned with direct service delivery; on‐site, website, and telephone communications; disability‐inclusive marketing; modifying and adapting services; appropriately responding to any expressed unique need of each customer; offering disability advocacy; and providing reasonable accommodations, as required. In 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted to protect the rights of people with disabilities within both the public and private sectors. The ADA was the first legislation that protected the rights of people with disabilities within privately funded businesses and organizations and is probably considered the first comprehensive civil rights act for people with disabilities. This chapter addresses the questions: why is disability competence important; and what are the required competencies. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/978111836472... https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/9781118364727.ch18 https://www.abicommunity.org/ |
