Reference: confounding Reference information: A confounding variable is a variable (say, pollution) that can cause the disease under study (cancer) and is also associated with the exposure of interest (smoking). The existence of confounding variables in smoking studies made it difficult to establish a clear causal link between smoking and cancer unless appropriate methods were used to adjust for the effect of the confounders. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2012-07-22 18:48:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- In literatura de specialitate anglosaxona, termenul de „confounder” este folosit pentru a defini o terta variabila, asociata atat cu evenimentul de interes (B), cat si cu factorul de risc (F), si care nu reprezinta o treapta intermediara in mecanismul biologic prin care factorul F conduce la aparitia bolii B, si are ca efect reducerea preciziei estimatiei riscului relativ, punand sub semnul indoielii validitatea rezultatelor privind relatia dintre F si B. http://environmetrics.ro/Papers/St_epid.pdf Reference: http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/yes/4297_MODULE_1... |
