partículas livres Explanation: I don't speak Portuguese, but following the same question in the English-only pair, I suppose that this is meant. In other words: an unbound particle. It doesn't have to be isolated nor "independent". The general point is that there exist particles with fractional charges - quarks - but they are always bound. Example sentence(s):
