Oliveira Simões, I am not questioning the validity of your answer. In fact, yours is the most accurate one. All I said is that I *prefer* the other one, because in all my life as a native Brazilian I have never heard the term "daninha" mentioned anywhere if not refering to erva-daninha (weed), regardless of what the dictionary has to say.
In my opinion, the most accurate translation in the world is not ideal if you must force the reader to look it up on a dictionary. À mon humble gôut, it's better to use a more common synonym (danosa), unless the translation must use the most absolutely precise terminology, and we don't know if it must.
I just prefer practicality and familiarity over accuracy in this case. Let the one who asked decide what he values most. |
