We encounter common (base 10) logarithms in General Chemistry, primarily when dealing with pH.

Log factor is not a commonly used term; it may be an abbreviation. It is not encountered in mathematics or physics as such; I cannot find it. Whether log factor and logarithmic factor are the same is not clear. What logarithmic factor would mean here is also unclear without further context. There is plenty of extrapolation going on here.

If the term is "logarithmic factor" then, as you say, "to within one logarithmic factor" would mean "to within one one power of ten of the value X" i.e would lie in the range [0.1X, 10X].

A dlaczego nie sprawdzić w Googlu "logarithmic factor"? Skala pH, skala akustyczna (Bell). IMO bliżej wykładnika.

Which unit is pH given in?

pH does not have a unit and is measured as a number. The pH is a logarithmic factor which means that when a solution becomes ten times more acidic, the pH will fall by one unit and when a solution becomes a hundred times more acidic, the pH will fall by two units.
