W zbiorze danych do analizy przeżycia wyróżnia się tzw. obserwacje ucięte albo cenzorowane (ang. censored observations), o których wiadomo, że proces stochastyczny trwał dalej, jednak o jego dalszym czasie nie ma dalszych danych (np. pacjenci wypisani ze szpitala).

Censoring[edit]

Censoring is a form of missing data problem which is common in survival analysis. Ideally, both the birth and death dates of a subject are known, in which case the lifetime is known.
If it is known only that the date of death is after some date, this is called right censoring. Right censoring will occur for those subjects whose birth date is known but who are still alive when they are lost to follow-up or when the study ends.
If a subject's lifetime is known to be less than a certain duration, the lifetime is said to be left-censored.

Interval-censored data is when a time T of interest (here of death) cannot be directly observed, but can only be inferred to lie in an interval derived from a sequence of examination times i.e. the subject was alive yesterday morning, and is dead this morning, but we don't know the time of death more accurately than that.
