The transformation is performed in two steps: the ggplot base object defines an aesthetic mapping besides the data source, which is the dat.sub data frame created previously. The mapping describes which aspects of the data are mapped to which component in the chart. The command specifies that Throughput (y-axis) will be plotted over the DataScope (x-axis). Another component in the data, the Configuration, is color-coded with colour. In other words, ggplot2 uses a color to identify each Configuration.
