En kunstig grasrotbevegelse eller astroturfing betegner formelle informasjon- og samfunnskontaktprosjekter (PR-prosjekter) som forsøker å konstruere inntrykket av spontan grasrotsadferd. Begrepet kunstig grasrotbevegelse er basert på den nydannede engelske termen astroturfing (AstroTurf er kjent som en type kunstgresss produsert av det amerikanske selskapet Textile Management Associates). Målet er å framstå som en uavhengig folkelig reaksjon mot en politiker, politisk gruppe, produkt, tjeneste, hendelse eller liknende forekomst ved sentral orkestrering av handlingene til mange ulike og geografisk utspredte individer.
