A neuro-navigation system that accounts for brain shift can be constructed
using a method called image registration that ultimately utilises a finite element
analysis approach. Building a finite element model requires a mesh of the
structure preferably comprising of hexahedral elements. However, automatically
generating hexahedral elements for complex structures like the brain is a
problem that is yet to be solved. This project looks at a new approach where
a hexahedral dominant mesh is sought rather than a fully hexahedral mesh. A
new algorithm for hexahedral dominant mesh generation is developed and a
prototype generator that employs the algorithm is implemented in MATLAB
