English term or phrase: Independent in thinking, balanced in attitude.
I am putting together a slogan for a group of Vietnamese young likeminders. We'd like to emphasize the fact that we are breaking away from established ways of thinking in our own society so to look at things and events, to examine facts, figures, and concepts in more informed and rational manners without letting traditions and sentiments affecting our thought processes. At the same time, we'd like to maintain a flexible attitude so to be able to admit being wrong when others prove us wrong, and to be respectful to others no matter how much more knowledge we may have over them.

I am not even sure if the concept in English fully captures the scope of what we'd like to express in this concise slogan so any suggestions that come with the translation will be much appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

independent in thinking, balanced in attitude.
Independentes in cogitatione, aequi in habito

Explanation:
Since this is a slogan for a group, the nouns are in plural. I'm not sure if the "in +abl" construction is correct here. Also, "aequus" may not be what you are looking for, I think it may not convey the sense of flexibleness you were looking for. Among its usual translations are equal, level, contented. "Habitus" is condition, bearing, character, attitude.
