Explanation:
Sono due cose diverse ed alternative. Mettendo solo "agguato" si traduce solo "ambush". I molti hits con "predatore da agguato" si riferiscono perlopiù a pesci, e traducono in realtà "lurking predator", come il luccio.

Trovo interessante l'esempio fatto sopra del mamba nero: la citazione stessa fornita descrive la tecnica di caccia - che consiste nel restare -_immobile_ finchè la preda non è vicinissima. Quindi va benissimo per "ambush". Tutte le definizioni di "to stalk", invece, includono un movimento.

In generale tenderei a essere d'accordo con Michele quando dice che "imboscata" traduce solo la parte "ambush". Rimarrebbe fuori un pezzettino della definizione, e proprio per questo non mi ero limitata a effettuare la ricerca solo in inglese e in italiano. Ho visto per esempio che su questo dizionario inglese-tedesco

traducono "stalk and ambush hunter" con "Anschleichjäger". cercando oltre si trova anche l'altra versione, "Schleichjäger".

La parola ha diverse occurrences nelle due diverse forme:

Ora, "Jäger" sta per "cacciatore, mentre "Anschleich" sta per "avvicinamento di soppiatto". Insomma, paradossalmente il tedesco traduce solo la parte "stalk"! Paese che vai... Lingua che trovi! ^^
