non rispondo per i punti ma per passione verso queste ricerche.

Anyone who has seen a leafy sea-dragon (Phycodurus equus) cannot fail to make the connection between this tiny gossamer-like creature and the dragons of fairy tales.

This rare and vulnerable relative of the sea-horse might be only around 45 centimetres long and live in an element foreign to its fierce mythical cousin, but in appearance it is unmistakably a dragon.

Sea-dragons actually belong to the same family as sea-horses (Sygnathidae) but differ in appearance from the latter by possessing leaf-like appendages on their head and body, and having a tail that cannot be coiled up.

Scientificamente sono cavallucci marini, ma se il linguaggio qui deve anche rendere l'immagine opterei per l'inventatissimo termine del collega drago di mare, magari mettendo da qualche parte "minuscolo" per far capire ai bambini che si tratta di bestiola molto piccola e affinch/ non si aspettino il mostro di Loch Ness.
Le ho provate tutte in rete, ma non sono riuscita a trovare una pagina in italiano dove comparisse il termine latino.
Spero di aver reso l'idea.
Mestiere straordinario il nostro, sempre al limite tra linguattio attestato e salti di immaginazione.
