On the 27th of June 2005 at 23.00 in the evening the turtle conservation enforcement team of the Derawan Islands started an investigation to find the people who had reportedly taken turtles from the north of Panjang Island ― a major feeding ground which based on tag-recapture surveys, is known to be inhabitted by turtles from various countries such as Malaysia and Philippines. The team was led by Mr. Iramsyah, who is the head of sub-district for Derawan who continued the search untill the early morning.
