English term or phrase: Korma
Greetings,

Similarly, I have been able to track down the Devanagari Hindi for this word, a kind of curry but mild and cooked in cream.

Again, any etymological help most welcome. I have heard, for instance, that it might come from the Hindi word for “grill, braise”, but this may well be wrong.

Best wishes

Hindi translation:क़ोरमा, ﻗﻮﺮﻣﺎ
Explanation:
It's practically impossible to get the right k/q sound of korma unless you use urdu script, but modern hindi uses the क with a dot under it to make the right sound.
Here is an explanation about the etymiology:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korma

It also explains here that it is written many ways in english - sometimes spelt kormaa, qorma, khorma, or kurma.

I never cook it in cream but use (full cream) yoghurt.
