But it doesn't seem like the same thing and I'm having difficulty putting it into context here.
Any suggestions?

זה מה שנשנע לי סביר לפי ההקשר. הפירוש המקובל יותר זה הסחיפה של החיישן עם הזמן. כלומר, מצב שבו החיישן משנה את "כיוון ההסתכלות שלו" עם הזמן. ברור מן ההקשר שלא זאת הכוונה ולכן התרגום שהצעתי.
