Explanation: Note the indication of arc welders as possible source in the Hebrew definition - just like in the English source. That persuaded me. My previous שינוץ and my colleague's חירוץ are both OK as a description of the jagged shape, but they fail to capture the periodic nature of the phenomenon, and the fact that it is caused by certain ellectronic devices. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 61 days (2010-01-24 22:42:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A small correction/explanation: My mention of arc-welders (מכונות ריתוך) and dimmers (עמעם) as common causes of "Notching" is NOT from the English sources term above.
