I apologise for these random idioms but all of them have been heard within the last 24 hours. I make a note of them and the context. This helps me in my attempt to learn spoken Greek. Too many courses I am studying/have studied are very superficial or the dialogue is too stilted or they are frankly just plain tedious. In the lack of a regular contact with a Greek speaker, ProZ has been a real help to me and kept my interest alive!
'The incident has forced into the open an issue that the government would rather have swept under the carpet. The evidence was on film and the police couldn't just sweep it under the rug'. Are κουκουλώνω/ μπαμπουλώνω good parallel idioms?
