Many of the lay-in materials are relatively shear because of their translucence and their perforated design. It is a practise to stagger the locations of the stabilizer bars between successive rows of main tees so that any shadow of a stabilizer bar visible is discontinuous.

Aus dem Kontext lässt sich erschließen, dass es sich um ein lichtdurchlässiges Material handeln muss (translucent). Der Quelltext ist somit fehlerhaft, anstatt "shear" hätte dort "sheer" stehen müssen. Mein "ERNST" gibt dafür "durchscheinend" an, je nach Gusto kann man sicher transparent oder durchsichtig nehmen.

Es könnte zwar auch 'sheer' sein, aber da im Nachfolgenden von Stabilisatoren die Rede ist, denke ich, das gemeint ist, dass die Materialien 'relativ scherbar' (also instabil) sind.
