English term or phrase: "Trigger Man"
Trigger Man. A Trigger Man in American usage refers to a criminal who as part of a gang or group was the one who fired the weapon in the commission of a crime. I need this translated into German. I got a nice response from someone, but I believe I filled in the form incorrectly. I simply need an accurate translation of the term "Trigger Man" from English to German. Thank you kindly.

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Andreas Kobell: "Auftragskiller" fits best IMHO, as it also implies that the Trigger Man did not act on his own intention but was paid and ordered to kill, e.g. by the gang boss.

agree  Irene Schlotter, Dipl.-Übers.: 'Auftragskiller' if you want to emphasize that the murderer acted in execution of a paid job, 'Todesschütze' if you simply want to focus on the person giving off the lethal shot without focusing on whether or not it was as part of a paid job.

agree  traintrans (X): 'Auftragskiller' as it says 'in the commission of the crime'

neutral  Jonathan MacKerron: that would be "contract killer"

agree  Klaus Urban: mit Andreas

Trigger Man
Todesschütze

Explanation:
If you are referring particularly to the member of a gang group firing the shot that killed the victim, I would say "Todesschütze". in a newspaper article.
"Profikiller" is more the general term of a professional assassin.

Explanation:
This would be the closest neutral translation and simply refers to the person physically pulling the trigger.
