Im Bergbau heißt die Frischluftzufuhr "Bewetterung", die Schächte dafür sind Wetterschächte.

agree Ramey Rieger (X) : I'm convinced, the schematic drawing on the Wiki site and the Leo translation both agree - ventilation. What puzzles me is the English term "vent raise", which seems like translated translation. OH MY GOD, THE SUN IS SHINIING

I couldn't find any confirmed translation of the term but under Google Books (link below) I found a drawing that matches my suggestion and the technical translation of VENT and RAISE.
