s.u. Explanation: Heartpine is the actual heartwood of the tree. Since pine used to be quite large when it was logged some hundred years ago, the pine trees were able to grow large enough to develop heartwood. Now that is not the case, as pine trees do not grow as big because they are harvested at an earlier age. Explanation: http://www.heartpine.com/index2.shtml Offenbar wird das Holz nicht nur aus alten Schuppen wiedergewonnen (aufgearbeitet) sonder auch vom Boden von Flüssen und Seen geholt, wo es seit -zig Jahren liegt. The logs were cut down in the nineteenth century, pulled to the nearest river, lashed together to form a raft, and floated downriver to the nearest mill. Some of the heavier logs got away and sank to the river bottom... waiting all this time to be reclaimed and put to work.
