Explanation:
Je comprends "beat" comme un adjectif, sur le même plan que "literary" dans la phrase. Je ne crois pas qu'il y ait de référence au mouvement littéraire de la Beat Generation de Kerouac et consorts (il y aurait une majuscule, à mon avis) et le mot "beatnik" évoque en français un commentaire désapprobateur de parent des Trente glorieuses agacé par les cheveux longs de sa progéniture donc assez has-been.

Je reformulerais complètement, par exemple :
parmi les artistes et autres écrivains menant la vie de bohème

disagree  Dumaz & Cowling: Le fait qu'il n'y ait pas de majuscule à Beat ne me semble pas un critère, la phrase anglaise étant par ailleurs assez étrange (un locuteur anglais n'utiliserait pas le terme ***beat*** seul.
