Si vous cherchez un terme plutôt désuet de la part d'une jeune femme bien éduquée, voilà ce que je proposerais. Par "Motherless dogs", j'entends une expression méprisante désignant deux vauriens d'un rang social moindre ; "marauds" reprend plutôt bien cette idée il me semble. Si vous tenez à reprendre l'idée de "chien" (mais ça ne semble pas être le cas), vous pourriez tourner la phrase comme suit : "ils l'ont bien secouée, ces chiens !". Dans tous les cas il me semble nécessaire de se détacher un minimum du texte source.
