English term or phrase: imaginatively far afield

In an article about a composer and his music, a journalist writes:

"there is nothing so imaginatively far afield as the likes of Mr. John"

Full sentence (it's a press release):

The unusually wide range of his works — for standard classical music ensembles such as his last concerto, as well as for non-western instruments like Tibetan singing bowls and shofars — has compelled The New York Times to declare: "there is nothing so imaginatively far afield as the likes of Mr. John."

I understand the meaning but I struggle to find the equivalent of "imaginatively far afield" in French. Any ideas?

il est difficile d'imaginer que quelqu'un puisse avoir des intérêts aussi éloignés les uns des autres que ceux de M. John

nothing so imaginatively far afield as the likes of Mr. John
=
it would be difficult to imagine that someone could have so differing interests (but here it is, a real case like that, the same person interested in standard classical music as well as Tibetan singing bowls and shofars)

CL5 about the meaning - OTOH could also be worded differently.
