We can also say, “by human standards”. I mean, “judging by human standards.”

My paragraph for translation gives the context:
The greatest mistake made by people is to think that the standards by which God judges us are the same as ours. But God is utterly holy, truly perfect, like an all-consuming fire! According to human standards you may be an absolutely wonderful person, but according to God’s perfect standards you still fall short. It is a great mistake to speak ill of any religion - the problem lies not with religion, but with us.
