This is a concept from St. Augustine.

What he believed was that people who did not have the life-changing experience resulting from surrendering one’s life to Jesus Christ could have no real virtues, but only noble vices, i.e. bad points which nevertheless had a certain nobility about them.

I suppose a modern defender of St. Augustine would point to the lack of true democracy and human rights in non-western societies but also the large-scale wickedness in modern Western societies too.

The main example would probably be promiscuity, which often results in abortion, which many Christians see as murder, often perpetrated by non-believers with relatively benign intentions.

However, I certainly wouldn't go so far as to call the wrong things done by believing Christians “base virtues”:)

"noble vices", as per your explanations, refer to majestic vices committed by the nobility. It is a very beautiful oxymoron!

If we are to keep the style as close to the source as possible, I recommend that "رذایل فضیله" be used.

disagree  kolya: what you wrote in farsi as عیب، فسق یا خباثت اصیلmeans a true betrayal or a cardinal sin

  -> Dear Kolya the above refers to bad points which nevertheless had a certain nobility about some one who is never gonna be corrected and as far as I know اصیل with such a combination as the above has such connotation as requested, thanks anyway

درسته که ایشان اصل عمل شان گناه حســاب میشه وغلطــه ولی با این کارشــون جلــوی هزار کمبود و مشکل ها و گناهان دیگر را گرفتند. من از کار و عمل ایشان دفاع نمی کنــم ولی با این کارشون مثل یک شیطنت کوچک جلوی هــزار پلیدی بزرگ و بد طینت دیگر را گرفت
یا به صورت.که درمقابله ومقایسه با گناهان بزرگ , و ستم های بیشمار حاکم ها پادشاهان ان زمان انگلیس. اعمال رابین هود هر چند دزدی حساب میشد ولی کاری انسانی و اصیل. سخاوتمندانه و هر جند گناه ولی گناهی خوش ذات به حساب میاید.
