Hello.
How would you translate "conducting long sweeps across the lake" in the following text?
The narrator is talking about a sonar she's been u sing to find a dead body at the bottom of a lake. She uses a boat to travel across the lake. Apparently, "sweeps" has to do with emitting sound waves/pulses. I studied about how a sonar works, I learnt that it emits sound waves and measures the characteristics of the waves reflected from objects.

Here's the context:
I started with sonar. Another random thought, but as I sink lower in the watery abyss, I can picture that, too. Me, piloting a small boat that I’d rented with my own money. Conducting long sweeps across the lake for two days straight, which was all I could afford, working a theory everyone else had dismissed.
