English term or phrase: chickpeas
Greetings,

I think that the peas which we eat for dinner, i.e. the small, green vegetables, are نخود.

However, I think that you use a different word for “chickpea” – do you add a diminutive suffix or something?

Please give the exact pronunciation, and let me know the exact meaning of the suffix.

All the best, and many thanks,

Simon

The suffix is "چی", which is another verssion of "چه", a diminutive suffix.

Another laess common version of "نخودچی" is "نخودچه". The latter, I think, is used by Shirazis.

نخودچي

Explanation:
نخود بوداده . (فرهنگ نظام ). قسمي نخود که برشته کنند و آن جزو آجيل است .
نخود ريزه و کوچک تر از نخودهاي معمولي .
-مثل نخودچي ; به خردي و ريزي نخود.
so we can conclude that نخودچي is smaller than normal peas.

the pronunciation is /nokhodchi/

چي مانند «چه » علامت تصغير است و به تعبير بهتر عوام در مواردي «چه » را چي تلفظ کنند: نخودچي .
لحافچي . قباچي .
Therefore چي like چه is a diminutive suffix
