Lootboxen zijn een vorm van gokken in games, waarin de speler een "doos" koopt waarin een aantal willekeurige items zitten, met een zeer kleine kans (doorgaans) op een heel goed item, dat vaak essentieel is om in het spel verder te komen. Het verdienmodel van veel games is hierop gebaseerd (pay to win). Lootboxen zijn controversieel omdat ze kinderen aanzetten tot gokken en omdat spelers er ongemerkt erg veel geld aan kwijt kunnen zijn.
