On the other hand traditional playgrounds with equipment such as ***jets***, roller coasters, bumps, sandboxes and climbing gear feature the least challenging play for children, and the most non-play, such as standing and “hanging around” or just walking around.

Tušil by někdo, o jaký typ náčiní se jedná? Je to nějaké houpací letadélko, nebo něco jiného.
Problém: je to z rozhovoru s norskou profesorkou...

Explanation:
This would be "stihacka" in literal translation but in this context I would use "letadlo". It used to be a practice (and still is in some parts of the world) to use decomissioned old jets as features on playgrounds. Some decades ago I saw many of those in the former Czechoslovakia. :-)
These days it is probably too difficult to arrange such commission because of safety regulations.
In the paragraph the author rightly says these are mostly "non-play" pieces of equipment.

Jasne. vidim ze je to z Norska. Tam by to nebylo tak jednoduche, spis by se tam davali na hriste modely nez vyradene stroje. V Australii jsem take videl modely - udelane jako "umelecke kousky" nebo jako projekty udelane na objednavku, treba z dreva...

Explanation:

Asker: Moc díky, pane Hanuško. Nevím, když si představím tradiční hřiště, tak se mi úplně nevybaví letadlo vyřazené z provozu. Ta paní je navíc z Norska, země kterou si, možná chybně, nespojuji s nějakou vlasteneckou/vojenskou výchovou. Čímž samozřejmě neříkám, že nemůžete mít pravdu :-)
