The sound of the cash register is supposed to be music for the ears of the one who is doing the selling, only in this case it's the one who is doing the buying that is supposed to be delighted by the sound of the cash register? A special case of Stockholm syndrome? Being happy at emptying your own pockets and filling other people's pockets??? I think that you have to forget cash registers altogether and look at implied/associated meanings. The initial idea was to associate the sound of a cash register with a successful sale, so it meant "success/achieved goal" for the seller. Obviously that logic won't work for the buyer!
