It is hypothesized that the molecular profiles of subjects with SCLC could be different at baseline before chemotherapy treatment and the distinct profiles (or gene alterations) could categorize subjects based on the chemotherapy outcomes. It is also assumed that the molecular profile difference could be identified by the profiling methodology employed in the study. Therefore, the outcome of the study could aid future patient treatment/management algorism. Given the challenge of tumor biopsy for SCLC patients, the current study will evaluate the molecular profiles of CTCs and tumors for molecular profile concordance. If the results of the study indicate that the molecular profiles of CTCs could represent those in tumors, future clinical studies and patient management could utilize the “liquid biopsy specimen”, which is less invasive and can be collected at multiple times along disease journey.
