disagree  Ali Al awadi: sure the first phrase means his mum did not leave but later the context shows that she has already left or at least was not with him when he was talking about her ....إرحميني يا زينب...خدي الأربع نقاط و ارحميني..ماشي يا ستي الولد كان خايف و مكلش البيتزا

-> The Boy was dying to eat the pizza but COULDN'T, he doesn't feel comfortable eating while his mother is around..Why don't you Check the context again DEAR ALI :) Ya Ali read the 1st line "a guy wiated for his mother to leave in order to eat pizza"!

Depending on the context, we need more context and a description of the tone of voice saying that.

انتهزت الفرصة/كانت فرصة مواتية/انتهزت فرصة غياب أمي

Explanation:
1-The idiomatic expression is "To be in the zone" and because idioms are always subject to modification in an ironical/funny way,the boy said " I was in a zone"..
2- "To be in the zone" literally means to be in a euphoria under the influence of drugs(sure that meaning is so far away from context" or to do something easily ,skillfully and in a concentrated way...
so the meaning is clear now ..the boy wanted to say "because my mum has been away,it was a good chance for me and I ate the pizza happily etc. .
3- With little modification to make the meaning of the idiom fits in the context,
the translation can be
انتهزت الفرصة/كانت فرصة مواتية/انتهزت فرصة غياب أمي
and using the word
انتهزت
is very important to reflect the nuances implied in the idiom" to be in a zone",I mean the nuances of being concentrating and do something skilfully, gladly and easily.

اظن ان افضل ترجمه هي " كنت سعيدا للغاية , أو شاعرا بالنشوى " فهو يقول ان البيتزا مذاقها افضل في غيابها لذلك فقد كان أسعد حالا حينئذ
