المورثات الخدميّة هي مورثات مرمّزة بشكل دائم، أي يعبّر عنها بشكل دائم، حيث أنّها تؤمن للخليّة (بكل أنواعها) العديد من الوظائف الأساسيّة.
أي أنَّ المورثات الخدميّة تعبّر عن ذاتها في معظم -إن لم يكن كلّ- الخلايا التي تتواجد فيها، وذلك لأن هذه المورثات تقوم بترميز بروتينات تزوّد الخلية بالوظائف الأساسية التي تحتاجها كل خلية للبقاء على قيد الحياة.
