English term or phrase: examiner
I will not authorize the search unless you get me a witness for a child's murder by her parents,an examiner's statement retracting their report, and new evidence. (Judge is talking here about crime).

I'll ask the professor to run the analysis. He's an examiner specialized in fabrics. (Doctor is talking here about fabrics analysis).

Does "examiner" have the same meaning in both situations?

Thanks in advance,

خبير
Explanation:
The term could mean different specializations but the Arabic translation applies to all of them

Other translations are possible depending on the context
خبير جنائي
خبير فحص جنائي
خبير قضائي

But since the subject is fabric analysis I think خبير will do

Notes to answerer
Asker: Good one, but don't you think that the report in the first sentence is the autopsy report?

طبيب شرعي، محلل أدلة

Explanation:

The two statements in the given text are sloppy and confusing. Unfortunately, this is how many people talk, including judges and doctors. I agree entirely with Ashraf Aly's basic approach, which is to treat the two instances of "examiner" as two different terms, not one.

The best way to dispel the confusion is to follow the two links provided by Ramadan Ibrahim in his discussion entry above. The two links clearly distinguish between "medical examiner" and "trace evidence examiner." The two terms fit your text perfectly. Let's look at each term separately:

1. When the judge demanded "an examiner's statement," the judge meant "a medical examiner's statement." I agree entirely with Hassan Achahbar's analysis in his discussion entry: the purpose of the medical examiner's statement demanded by the judge is to retract an earlier autopsy report that is being disputed by the party requesting a search.

In all my years of translation experience, I have never seen "medical examiner" translated to anything other than طبيب شرعي. Apparently, that is the term used all over the Arab world. To use any other term would be confusing, even if we don't particularly like this Arabic term (I am not a fan of it).

2. When the doctor said that the professor was an examiner, the doctor meant "trace evidence examiner," also called "trace evidence analyst." I recommend محلل أدلة for this term:

an examiner specialized in fabrics = محلل أدلة مختص في المنسوجات
