Canopic jars were used by the Ancient Egyptians during the mummification process to store and preserve the viscera of their owner for the afterlife. They were commonly either carved from limestone or were made of pottery.

Context:
The recent clearance of the tomb yielded a canopic chest.

Canopic jars الأوعية/الأواني/الجرار الكانوبية

Explanation:
أوان كانوبية
canopic jars
أربع أوان من الحجر الجيري أو المرمر استخدمت لحفظ الأحشاء في عملية التحنيط، سميت بهذا الاسم نسبة إلى معبود قديم يدعى كانوبس ، كان يقدس في قرية كانوب بالقرب من مدينة الاسكندرية.

الأواني الكانوبية

اسم أطلقه الإغريق على الأواني التي كانت تحنط فيها الأعضاء الداخلية للميت كالقلب والكبد، وقد نسبت إلى معبود مدينة كانوب (أبو قير الحالية) الذي كان يمثل على هيئة آنية لها رأس الإله أوزيريس.

الجرار الكانوبية

جرار أربع من الحجر، تحفظ فيها أحشاء الميت (قلبه وطحاله وكبده وحواياه) بعد تحنيطها، وتغطى بأغطية في هيئة أرواح أربع موكلة بحفظ هذه الأحشاء. وقد نسبت خطأ إلى مدينة "كانوب" أبو قير الحديثة، وهذا محل نظر.
