God can be translated in “Perendia” and “ Zoti”. Both translation are right.God (Perendia) is more ritual, less daily, not the standard, while the word God (Zoti) more useful by Albanians, most simple, direct, non-liturgical. If you refer the Bible the word God is replaced by the personal pronouns like He, His, Him which means that we are dealing with a male gender. God (Perendia) is a female gender. This is another reason why “Zoti” is so useful in Albania.

I worked for the missionaries and God bless Albania (Zoti e bekofte Shqiperine) organization from 1991 – 1999. I still do a lot of translation for EMM and VMBM.

disagree  Monika Coulson: 1. Misspelling of the last word; 2. Misleading explanation for the translation of the word "God". See Reference below...

Reference: Bible translation of "God"

Reference information:
The Albanian words "Perëndi" and "Zot" are two distinguished words in the Albanian Bible.

"Perëndi" and "Zot" do not mean the same thing (again, check the Albanian Bible, King James Version.)

"God" is always translated as "Perëndi."
"Lord" is always translated as "Zot."

God (Perëndi) and Lord (Zot) are not the same. Lord refers to Jesus Christ. God refers to the Father.

It is true that in Albanian we say "Zoti të bekoftë" very often. That is how we say it: "May the Lord bless you."

However, just because Albanians say "May the Lord bless you," it does not mean that the translation for the word "GOD" is "Zot."

They (Perëndia dhe Zoti) are different from each other, therefore, two different words. Once again, the Albanian Bible distinguishes these two words and we should translate them accordingly.

Hope this helps to clear up the confusion about the translation of the word "God" into Albanian.

Cheers,
Monika

Dear Alan,
Thanks for your comment. The reason why the site did not allow you to award points to this answer is that this answer was a not-for-point answer (it is just a Reference.) I added this reference, to clear up the confusion that the first answer may have caused regarding the translation of the word "God" into Albanian. I am glad it was helpful to you. Thanks again.
