Law/Patents - Philosophy / philosophy of law

Part of the text I'm dealing with deals with legal philosophy. Am I to understand 'rechtsgenoten' as 'parties under the law'? RSVP. Cheers, R.

English translation:persons who are subject to the same legal system
Explanation:
IMO this is what the term boils down to. Also used in the sense of 'the general public' or 'the average citizen' (see reference below).
Perhaps someone else will come up with a shorter alternative :-)

Alternative example sentence:
Y's rule of recognition is influenced though by the individual perceptions of those who are subject to a given legal system regarding what is 'justice'.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I've gone simply with 'parties' as the context in which the term is used clearly indicates that this concerns subjects of the legal system, but the research by you and Jarry is appreciated nonetheless. Cheers, R.

agree  Michael Shano: Another example sentence: Y's rule of recognition is, in any case, influenced by whatever the general public perceives to be just.

-> Bedankt Michael.
