rechtsgenoten persons who are subject to the same legal system Explanation: IMO this is what the term boils down to. Also used in the sense of 'the general public' or 'the average citizen' (see reference below). Perhaps someone else will come up with a shorter alternative :-) Het recht kan die functies alleen vervullen als er bij de rechtsgenoten zelf (het ‘publiek’) voldoende vertrouwen bestaat in het systeem van het recht zelf. http://www.law.leidenuniv.nl/onderzoek/onderzoeksprogrammas/... Met andere woorden: een zekere mate van acceptatie van het rechtssysteem en het functioneren daarvan bij de rechtsgenoten is per definitie noodzakelijk om de uitkomst van een rechterlijke beslissing als uitvloeisel van dat systeem te legitimeren en te accepteren. http://www.wodc.nl/images/JV0301_artikel01_tcm44-57751.pdf -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 16 hrs (2009-01-13 12:07:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Alternative example sentence: Y's rule of recognition is influenced though by the individual perceptions of those who are subject to a given legal system regarding what is 'justice'.
