The OLYMPIC CLIP SYSTEM can be best compared to a traditionally made clip. This means the clip is made of the base material that the horseshoe is made of. A characteristic of this system is that the clip is set a little back into the shoe. As material is removed from the horseshoe, (such as during forging), a nicely tapered and solid clip is created. Sufficient material remains at the base to pull the clip up, if necessary. For proper use of the shoe, it is necessary to rasp the hoof wall in the location of the clip. In this way, the shoe can be fitted properly. As a result, the clip appears to become part of the hoof wall.

Improvements in description could be 'bent inwards' or 'concave'.
