I have expressed doubt, not labelled anything 'wrong'. I am a bit paranoid about literal translations, because English is not my native language (like it is in your case, Solejnicz). That's why sometimes I want to hear other people's opinion, which is why I asked this specific question. Not because I can't think of several possible translations myself, but because I want to use the best option and convey the message most accurately. Seems to me that this is what this forum is about.

When talking about goals, you say that they are applicable rather than valid. It strikes me that the asker labels more often perfect English phrases as wrong.

I would translate this sentence as: "The ideals of a just society and power of control with the people are generally accepted."

Yes yes I know it's not the difficultestest of questions. So shoot me. Sometimes you've just been staring for so long that you can't really think clearly about some phrases. Thanks for helping out though. :)

I don't understand why many of you have voted for 'universally applicable'. In this context, 'have general validity' seems way better to me. Compare these two:

The goals of a more equitable society and giving people a greater say in matters have general validity.

The goals of a more equitable society and giving people a greater say in matters are universally applicable.
