This appears to be a type of crossword puzzle with no black squares at all (i.e. letters would fill the whole puzzle when solved). I'm not a 'puzzler', so I have no idea if there even is an English equivalent.

  -> Thanks. I seem to recall that as the name of this type of puzzle in the Sunday Times/colour supplement puzzle page. I thought it was the pseudonym of the setter.
