Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Furniture / Household Appliances / multiply/laminated/veneered wood
Dutch term or phrase: kwartierverband
general context: product description of a chair - moulded laminated-wood seat shell. NL/BE company (but apparantly with a certain amount of German influence).

Specific context: description of the finishing options for the seat shell:

'Als toplaag kiest u tussen actueel beuken fineer (zoals de XS) en stijlvol gebleekt eiken fineer in gelijnd kwartierverband.'

No useful (IMO) hits on google. I fished up the manufacturer's product brochere, which contains the following description:

'Deze uitvoering met royale zitschelp kenmerkt zich door een uitstekend zitcomfort en stijlvolle uitstraling. Voor dit laatste tekent de edele uitvoering in gebleekt eikenfineer met dwarsgelijnde structuur. Alternatief is een fineer uitvoering uit natuurlijk beukenhout.'

So I wonder whether the 'kwartierverband' actually has anything to do with the surface layer or instead means the shell is formed as a four-ply laminate.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yeah, I thought of that but dismissed it -- apparently too quickly, judging from a bit of googling now (that's what comes of living in Canada, where veneer is produced en masse by peeling logs).
